ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMISSION II WITHIN THE
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND
REMOTE SENSING

In accordance with the Statutes and Bylaws of the ISPRS
the Technical Commissions, normally acting for a four
years period between two International Congresses, are
responsible for the scientific work and progress within
the ISPRS.
For the first time Technical Commissions were formed
after the Und International Congress which took place
in 1926 in Berlin. During the Illrd Congress in 1930
there were presentations of then 11 Technical Commissions.
The now existing 7 Technical Commissions are based on
proposals which were made in preparation of the first
post war Congress which took place in 1948 in The Hague.
The areas of responsibility of these Commissions were:
I: Photography and Photographic Technique, Survey Equip
ment and Electronic Technique,
II: Restitution Instruments and Plotting,
III: Aerial Triangulation, Control Point Determination,
IV: Application of Photogrammetry in Surveying,
V: Various Scientific Fields,
VI: Education and Terminology,
VII: Photo interpretation,
whereas the active work of the Vllth Technical Commission
only started in 1952.
