although the work horses in production until today have
lost their scientific importance.
New terms like Hardware and Software arose and plotting
as processing of image data became the main link in the
image measuring procedures.
Consequently Commission II due to the resolutions of the
Ottawa Congress at the International Congresses in 1976
and 1980 was acting under the designation "Instrumenta
tion for Data Reduction". Influenced by digital image
processing technology which then mainly was applied in
remote sensing in 1980 the commission name was extended
by the term "Data Analysis", the now valid name for our
Ilnd Commission "Systems for Data Processing and Reduct
ion was chosen in 1984.
The terms instrument or plotter no more appear in the
headline. The change of interest and the new task of the
Technical Commission II become still more clearer if the
areas of interest of the Working Groups are analyzed.
Such groups can be established by the Technical Commission
for providing initiative in technical and scientific pro
gress.
For the first time within Commission II during the period
from 1964 - 1968 a Working Group for the "Elaboration of
Standard Tests for Photogrammetric Restitution Instruments"
and a Intercommission Working Group on "Fundamental Prob
lems in Photogrammetry" were organized. For the next four
year period from 1968 - 1972 a new Working Group on "Auto
mated and Analytical Instruments" was established, where
as the work on Standard Tests went on until 1976. From
1972 - 1976 we already notice 3 Working Groups solving
special tasks within the Commission II. Additional to the
before mentioned 2 Working Groups a third one is occupied
with "Orthophoto Equipment". A systematic splitting up of
Commission Work started in 1976 when 4 new Working Groups
