ISPRS Commission VI Symposium
Bandung - Indonesia, April 15-17, 1999
Education And Communication
Foreword
The ISPRS mid-term Symposium of the Technical Commission VI (TC VI) and Exhibition
was originally planned last year, August 1998. However, due to the political situation in
Indonesia that year, the event has been delayed. Now the symposium is on the stage. There
are also other related activities within our symposium, i.e. the workshop on earth monitoring
and disaster management, and the high level tutorial. As the host of this event we feel honor
because to some extent we can keep our commitment as well as our contribution to the
prestigious scientific community such as ISPRS. In the future we do hope that these
commitment and contribution will continue.
The theme of symposium is “Sharing and cooperation in Geo-information Technology”. This
theme was selected after a number of alternative themes proposed by the colleagues among
the member of the Indonesian Surveyors Association. It is expected that all activities of WG
will be covered within this theme and support the theme Congress of ISPRS Amsterdam
2000.
About 30 papers have been submitted and presented in the symposium. The papers are more
or less equally distributed within 7 sessions of our WG. For those who submit the paper we
extent our sincere thank because without paper it is impossible to run a symposium. Although
the topics are vary, but it reflects the author's commitment to the Technical Commission VI -
Education and Communication. In conjunction with symposium, an exhibition is also taking
part.
A special session on earth monitoring and disaster management has also been added. The WG
on earth monitoring and disaster management of the Asia Pacific Advance Network (APAN)
support this session. APAN was recognized at the APEC Symposium for Realizing the
Information Society Field of R&D Activities in March 1996 as well as the APEC Test-bed
Forum in June 1996. Its establishment is to meet requirement of high performance network
services for R&D. In this regard; it show how ISPRS maintain their mission to elaborate the
regional contact.
In closing, the 1999 Symposium committee feel honored to be your host and looks forward
your valuable contribution. We hope this event become a successful and a memorable event
for all of us.
Bandung, April 1999
President ISPRS Technical Commission VI
