CONCLUSIONS AND PERSPECTIVES
The high resolution of the IKONOS2 images enables the
production of land use data in a large scale. Even the
classification of small areas of land use and small objects like
irrigation sewers in the fields are possible. In China, this is
particularly of importance due to the very small size of farm land
(< 1 ha) in some areas. Because of the lack of data availability,
additional DGPS field surveys are necessary for the
georeferencing process of the image and for the evaluation of
the land use classification. The latter is not done yet. The quality
of the attributes of the derived land use map can even be
enhanced by using a multitemporal classification approach. The
spatial quality should be enhanced by using the “pan-
sharpening” method of the multispectral files. The latter process
will be the next step while the acquisition of more IKONOS2
images is questionable due to new pricing of Spaceimaging
which now have a minimum order of new images of U$ 6000,-.
