REPORT OF THE FINNISH SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY 1952—1956 GENERAL FEATURES. Organization and equipment. Official map-making in Finland is on the whole carried out on the basis of aerial photo graphy. In addition aerial pictures are used for several other purposes. Official map-making is now divided as follows: The Geodetic Institute carries out triangulations and leveling of I Order with scientific accuracy. The main mapping authority The General Survey Office has a Land Survey Department and a Geographical Survey Department, the latter divided into five divisions. The Geodetic Division carries out lower o der triangulation and leveling. The Photogrammetric Division is responsible for aerial pnotography, photogrammetrical control extension and the making of controlled mosaics. The Topographic Division carries out the field work for the base map, and in connection with it there is a map printing establish ment. The Cartographic Division is responsible for the small scale mapping. The plan Survey Division carries out plan surveys and schemes which are also ne by private surveying offices. The Defence Forces Topographic Service, in cooperation with the General Survey Office, supplies the maps required by the Defence Forces and undertakes the surveying of garrison, training and other areas. The Topographic Service has a Geodetic, Photogrammetric and Topographic section. The Photogrammetric Division of the General Survey Office and the Photogrammetric Section of the Topographic Service are working in close cooperation using partly the same methods.
