SOIL EROSION TOPOSEQUENCES ON AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS

ABSTRACT
r ironment,
Soil erosion features may occur in a regular sequence of types and
intensities along the hillslopes in a certain area. The study of aerial
photographs of medium to large scales, taken in the right season, can show
the areas where an erosion toposequence occurs. The presence or absence,of
an erosion toposequence and the kind of sequence depend on the runoff con
ditions. This has implications for soil conservation and land classification.

INTRODUCTION
Symp. ,
Studies of aerial photographs from different areas were made in ITC to
identify soil erosion features, especially in agricultural areas. The scales
of these photos varied from 1:10.000 to 1:35»000.The features are usually
most visible on photos flown during the season with young crops and seedbeds
or when the land has been ploughed after harvest.
Aerial photo-interpretation is a tool in the survey of natural resour-
