CARTOGRAPHIE THEMATIQUE AUTOMATIQUE

ABSTRACT
The automation of thematic mapmaking involves the following
three stages: (i) " Texturing ", which consists of distinguishing the
greatest number of significant categories in the image, by means of the
textural characteristics of objects; (ii) " Structuring ", whose aim is
to study the position relationships and the significance of textural
elements as a function of the scale of the document desired and of
the problem at hand; (iii) " Modeling ", which makes a property or,
more generally, a theme of the object studied correspond to the diffe
rent structures. Several examples of these three stages of mapmaking
are described, taken either from ERTS satellite data or from aerial
photographs.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
Zur Automatisierung der thematischen Kartographie mu^ man
drei Stufen durchlaufen.
