- 519 - CACRS - Canadian Advisory Committee on Remote Sensing CCRS - Canada Centre for Remote Sensing NAPL - National Air Photo Library To provide an impression of the regional activities, a brief status review is itemized here for each province in west- to-east order. The Northwest and Yukon Territories have no regional representation in the national program yet. (See Figure 2.) British Columbia The Remote Sensing Information Office functions in the Field Operations Division, Surveys and Mapping Branch, B.C. Department of Lands, Forests and Water Resources, dating back to July, 1973. A staff of two professionals (a botanist and a forester) manage information service, co-ordination of CCRS flying and ERTS programs, interdepartmental communications and applied research. Alberta The Alberta Remote Sensing Center was established under the Environmental Coordination Services, Interdepartmental Relations Division, Alberta Environment, in June, 1974. The office has a staff of three: the administrator, a technologist and a clerical officer. The centre is responsible for information service and for co-ordinating remote sensing activities of all sectors in the province, and for providing a link with the CCRS. It offers an ERTS "Quicklook" facility as a near real-time image library. Also, it assists users in projects by offering inter pretation facilities, technical advice and organization of training programs. Saskatchewan The province of Saskatchewan has a committee consisting of senior specialists to act as a liaison and co-ordinating group. A decision is expected on whether or not a centre will be established. If the decision favours establishing a centre, a start may be made before April, 1975. Manitoba The Manitoba Remote Sensing Centre was established under the Surveys, Mapping and Lands Branch of the Manitoba Department of Mines, Resources and Environmental Management in February, 1974. The office has a staff of two and one-half: the supervisor, a technician, and a clerk-steno shared with another office. The centre is responsible for monitoring the status of remote sensing, for providing an information service and technical advice, for co-ordinating training programs, inter disciplinary projects and for acting as provincial liaison with the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing and other provincial centres.
