183 Each course in the Land Surveying Programme gives one half credit. The courses are given in units of two hours of lectures and one and half hours of laboratory/tutorials per week, over the three terms. This implies that the total student’s work load is 16 hours of lectures and 1£ hours of laboratories/tutorials per week. In 1989/90 the new curriculum was implemented, to the Land Surveying Programme. THe main items of equipment available in Department of Surveying is shown in table 3. 2.3.1 Interactive Mapping System To comply with the future demands of the governmental and private institutions in Zambia, regarding the training of Surveyors for the new technologies, the Interactive Mapping System has started to be set up in Department of Surveying. As it can be seen from the table 3, some components are already available in department. Presently, the computer network is installed, to combine all components into one integrated system. The designed system is shown in figure 1. The available in department components are shown with the coninuous lines. The remaining parts of system, showed with the dashed lines, and the software packages for GIS and remote sensing are expected in 1991.
