Desktop Cartography was previously conducted by Bandung
Institute of Technology (ITB) as a cooperative training with
Bakosurtanal. After technology’s transfer to Bakosurtanal
training staffs, then the training can be done in Bakosurtanal. It
is important to push with various cooperative activities with
other institutions, universities etc., in order to strengthen the
capability of TDSM trainers and instructors.
c. Remote Sensing and GIS Course
The objective of this course is to optimize the methodology of
spatial data processing by applying remote sensing and GIS
technology. This training is conducted for 20 Bappeda staffs
(Autonomous Kabupaten Area) in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang
and Bekasi (Jabotabek) area, Sukabumi and Cianjur (Planned
for all Bappedas in District/Kabupaten Areas in Indonesia).
d. Course on Resources Remote Sensing with Image
Interpretation and Integrated Surveys Approach;
This training will be conducted by PUSPICS (Training Center
for Image Interpretation and Integrated Surveys), the Faculty of
Geography, Gadjah Mada University. Since the establishment
of PUSPICS (cooperated training center Bakosurtanal - UGM),
this training has resulted 419 Bappeda’s staffs from various
provinces and other participants in Indonesia.
e. Natural Resources Inventory Course
This training is to improve staff capability in natural resources
inventory, and its information presented by remote sensing and
GIS technology. This course is designed for 15 participants
from institution involved in surveys and mapping.

Future Activities
As shown in the program list, there are many activities in
training and extending to unrelated surveys and mapping fields.
This is obligatory that TDSM should train not only surveys and
mapping courses, but also should conduct the non-related
surveys and mapping courses. However, TDSM should give a
priority and focus on the training of surveys and mapping and
other related fields.
In general, education and training which will be conducted in
the range of five-year plan as follows:
1. Surveys and Mapping (SM) formal education/ degree)
2. Surveys and Mapping (technical) Training, consists of SM
Technical Basic Courses, Advanced, Technical Application
Course, Refreshment Courses for LREP/MREP Project,
Special (Tailor Made) Courses.
3. Non-related SM Training consists of functional and
structural bearers, career and promotion courses.
In general in period of five years, several planned training can
be seen in Table 2.
THE IMPROVEMENT OF TDSM
Training Staffs
TDSM totally has 42 staffs, with only 4 persons having masters
degree level, 8 persons sarjana (SI), 4 persons with bachelor
