4 CONCLUSIONS 230 From Table 2, following conclusions were obtained. 1) Classification accuracies of the proposed automatic classification method show almost same value to those of a conventional method by a skilled opera tor. The variation of mean accuracies between the conventional method and the proposed method is less than 1%. 2) Obtained accuracies by using the proposed method do not depend used reference maps. The variation of mean accuracies among the cases of using three reference maps is less than 1%. 3) In the case of using conventional method, several weeks may be needed to establish similar classification accuracies. Meanwhile, the proposed method were carried out with about 15 hours by using HP9000/840 mini-computer.
