Another typical feature of this area is woods, and wheat
especially is cultivated on small plots in the plain. In this
area cities are located in the valleys.
The areas considered are representative of the situation
found at a regional level (see figure (04)) and at a national
level also represent well some of the situations found most
frequently in Northern Italy. Special attention must be paid
to the survey of physical characteristics in the areas being
examined and the size of agricultural fields where the particular
species is grown.
Figure (05) therefore shows that average size is between 5.5 and
6.5 hectares.Another aspect of special importance to the
environment in general and the layout of settlements on the
territory is the very close network of towns, villages etc. and
that the network of asphalted and non-made-up roads intersect
throughout the region, especially in the plain.
The aim of the survey made on the three areas is to specify
several land groups for each of the existing agricultural
species. The following groups of soil use were investigated:
a) agricultural crops
al) wheat and small grains
a2) corn
a3)rice
a4)forage crops (meadows,grass fields
and pastures)
a5)tree crops (orchards and vineyards)
b) woods
'C) non-agricultural surfaces
d) unproductive surfaces.
