measurements of physico chemical water parameters being 
essentially needed as input data for the establishment of 
the mathematical modek, as well as for ground truth as needed 
for correlation with remotely sensed data.

THE NEED FOR AIRBORNE PLATFORM FOR GROUND TRUTH 
In KWPS program, remotely sensed data are to be acquired in 
three different ways. 
1- Very small scale MSS imagery (LANDSAT) 
2- Medium to large scale MSS imagery (airborne MATRA 
Scanner) 
3- Medium to large scale multispectral photography (air 
borne I^s multispectral camera). 
As LANDSAT imagery are only used for synoptic view of the 
area Fig. 2, large scale multispectral photographs and MSS 
imagery are to be used for detailed interpretation at acute 
ly polluted region Fig. (3). For this purpose, color and 
density measurements on multispectral photographs are to be 
correlated with the environmental conditions prevailing the 
area in the epoch of taking the photos. Thus water samples 
are to be analysed, the results of which would play the 
greatest role for the correlation stage and subsequently for 
the determination of signatures. Unlike remote sensing of, 
say, geological data, certain conditions are to be fulfilled 
in case of water pollution:
