ABSTRACT 
Taiwan Endemic Species Research Institute is in charge of endemic species 
research and conservation in Tarwan. The Low Altitude Experimental Station was 
created in the past three years to perform on site experiments in order to pursuing 
conservation of endemic species. A self-developed GIS was created accordingly. 
Remote sensing and global positioning systems were also integrated with a GIS. Then, 
an integrate database was created by a GIS to cover a wide variety of data such as, 
meteorology, vegetation, animal, soil, geology, topography, and imagery. A GIS was 
also implemented to solve management problems. Zoning of experiment sites at the 
station can be performed by a GIS in a continuous basis. A GIS database creation also 
can be performed in a real time on a given site. The whole process gave a new horizon 
to endemic species research and conservation experiments.
