4. MESH D.T.M. AT THE MT. FUJI AREA
In order to attach the ground elevation to each LANDSAT MSS pixel,
a mesh Digital Terrain Model ( mesh D.T.M. ) which sample points exist
on the mesh intersection is gotten. Mesh interval is 50 m.
Ground elevation data is picked out a series of points data
which have the three dimentional coordinates along each contour line
by using a digitizer. The height corresponding to each pixel of
the LANDSAT MAP, is calculated by the procedure that the topographical
feature is modeled as a curved surface and then the coordinate value on
the pixel position is interporated. (3)
5. METHOD TO MAKE LANDSAT LANDSCAPE DRAWING
Using both a LANDSAT MAP and a mesh D.T.M. on the Mt. Fuji area
obtained by the procedure as mentioned above, the LANDSAT MAP can be
transformed to a perspective view on the CRT. Hereby, it is called
LANDSAT landscape drawing.
As shown in Figure 3, the coordinates of pixel on the perspective
plane are calculated by the simple geometrical formula existing among
the objective pixel, a perspective plane and the view point.
Considering the hidden line problem, in actual case, the process
is devised as follows:
Deciding the coefficient which define the coordinate trans-
formation from an objective space to a perspective plane, the vertical
and lateral coordinates of MSS data on the perspective plane were
calculated.
The process is done line by line. Each transformed line makes
a skyline on the perspectives. The order of process should be done from
the farthest line toward the nearer line.
Computer core memory is required enough for saving the LANDSAT MAP
and the perspective drawing at a time. After processing all the lines,
the transformed LANDSAT MSS data is saved on a magnetic tape.
The contents of the magnetic tape will be displayed on the CRT as
a landscape. Figure 4 shows the flow.
6. AN EXAMPLE OF LANDSAT LANDSCAPE DRAWING
Photo. 2 shows an example of the LANDSAT landscape drawing
displayed on the CRT of the Image-100 by the method mentioned above.
