PROCESSING OF DIGITAL THREE LINE IMAGERY USING A GENERALIZED MODEL 
FOR COMBINED POINT DETERMINATION

ABSTRACT 
After a brief review of the present state of processing of digital 
imagery, generated by an opto-electronic three line camera, the mathe- 
matical model used is described in detail. Further on, the model is 
interpreted as a special case of generalized combined point deter- 
mination which is able to process both image coordinates of frame 
cameras and linear array imagery, 
control information. 
Finally, future tasks for R&D in connection with the use of opto-elec- 
tronic three-line cameras are mentioned, 
1. INTRODUCTION 
The processing of digital imagery, generated by an opto-electronic 
(or digital) three line camera, with methods of analytical photo- 
grammetry 'Was first: described in 1982 by Hofmann, Navé and Ebner 
/ 4 /. Further developments and applications of the so-called ‘Digital 
Photogrammetry System (DPS)' are published in / 5/ and /9/. Investi- 
gations on the accuracy of DPS were presented by Hofmann in / 6/ and 
/7?/. 
In this paper the mathematical model used for imagery of digital three 
line cameras is described in more detail. Moreover, this model is in- 
terpreted as a special case of generalized combined point determination, 
which is able to process both image coordinates of frame cameras and 
imagery of digital line cameras, So all the possibilities of combined 
point determination, like the consideration of geodetic and navigation 
data or of object information, can be realized in connection with line 
imagery, too /1 /. 
By means of simulated examples (free adjustment of a three line ima- 
gery strip, three line imagery block adjustment, using control points 
which is an extension of an existing bundle block adjustment program 
/8/. In this way all options of the program, for example simultaneous 
self calibration by additional parameters, can be used in connection 
with Tine imagery too.
