NATIONAL REPORT OF ISRAEL
During the period 1956—1960 Photogrammetry had its fair share in
speeding up the economic development of our Country.
The increased application of Photogrammetric Methods broadened its fields:
Photography, Mapping, Interpretation and Education.
Organizations participating in Photogrammetric Works
t. Survey of Israel, Department of the Ministry of Labour, is the official
organization for Aerial Photography and Photogrammetric Mapping.
2. Photogrammetric Institute, Jerusalem, is a private organization specialized
in Aerial Photography and Photogrammetric Services,
Research and Educational Establishments
i. The Division of Geodesy, of the Israel Institute of Technology in
Haifa, equipped with modern instruments for Terrestrial and Aerial Photogram-
metry, is engaged in Education and Research.
2. The Graduate School of Surveying, under the auspices of Survey of
Israel, has among other subjects a complete course in Photogrammetry, on the
syllabus of its second year.
Photography
“Arkia”, Israel Inland Airlines Ltd., equipped with twin-engined planes
and experienced crews, flies all missions of Aerial Photography.
WILD RC 5a film cameras with normal and wide angle lenses, of a
picture-size of 18x18 cm. are used.
Scale of photography varies from 1:7,000 to 1:50,000, depending on the
scale of maps to be plotted.
During the last four years about 60,000 sq. km. have been photographed
for various purposes.
Mapping
An extensive program of Photogrammetric Mapping in Medium and Small
scales is being carried aut by the Survey of Israel.
1. The unsurveyed regions of the Country, mainly desert areas, are now
being mapped in 1:20,000 manuscript scale, which is the base for the 1:50000
Series, with a contour interval of 10 metres.
2. The densely populated areas are mapped in 1:10,000 scale, These
maps, printed as Topo-Cadastral Series, have a contour interval of 5 metres.
3. Topographic Soil-Survey Maps of extensive areas are produced at the
scale of 1:5,000.
Large and Medium scale Photogrammetric Mapping, varying in scale from
1:500 to 1:5,000 with contour intervals of 0.5—5.0 metres as well as various
Mapping Projects at the scale of 1:10,000 and 1:20,000, are carried out at the
Photogrammetric Institute, Jerusalem.
The plans thus produced are generally used for Development Projects,
Geological and Hydrological Mapping, Town and Urban Planning, etc.
