FIRST MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, 12th SEPTEMBER, 1960
In the Chair: Prof O. W. MINTZER
Introduction by the President
This Session is devoted to the study of the
earth’s surface as such by aerial photographs.
The work on this over the past four years has
been headed by Mr Page Truesdell who un-
fortunately, due to the budgetary problems of
those employing him, is unable to be with us
today and this week. Therefore, this Session is
to be handled by Professor Owen Mintzer who
has been working more or less along with Mr
Truesdell and who has himself prepared a paper
for presentation. Professor Mintzer is professor
of Geology at the University of Ohio in the
United States. He has worked in highway en-
gineering and geological work, using aerial
photography for some twenty years or so, and is
well qualified to head this Session, I am sure.
Without further ado I will hand the Session over
to Professor Owen Mintzer.
Introduction by the Chairman, Prof Mintzer
Prof O. W. MINTZER: I also have some an-
nouncements to make since I am in the position
of handling the Session for Mr Truesdell. I
should do this before I start my paper. In our
Session to be held on Wednesday afternoon at
14.20 we shall have an additional discussion of
any papers or any information which comes
before you this afternoon. That will be in room
381 in the Institute of Education. Mr Thorén
from Sweden will show some slides of ice forma-
Archives 6
tion and pattern ground. Also, if there is time,
I believe we have a movie which has not yet
been shown. It is on geology and interpretation.
Mr Thorén’s slides will be of Alaska, Spits-
bergen and the North East land.
Prof Mintzer then presents his paper “Using
Airphotos to Identify Construction Sources of
Gravel”
