i. Introduction

Land is a basic commodity on which human beeings live, work 
and communicate. The use of land has to be planned in an 
optimal manner to serve all land related human activities 
in the best way. 
Planning requires information associated with land. That 
information may be stored in a land information system. Such 
a system consists of all pertinent, land related data and 
the methods for their collection, processing, management and 
presentation./ANDRÉ 83/ (see figure 1)
