ABSTRACT
A marine radar wave imaging system, MACRADARTM has been under development at MacLaren
Plansearch (1991) Limited. As part of the ongoing calibration and validation of MACRADARTM, as à
unit has been collecting wave image data from the LASMO (Nova Scotia) Limited hydrocarbon platform
Rowan Gorilla III for the past two years. This paper will present a comparison of long-term wave
statistics from buoy and radar observations. A six parameter model (Ochi and Habble, 1976) of the one-
dimensional spectrum will be used to present a family of wave spectra from both sources. The technique
of wave observation by the marine radar continue to be the subject of research. This paper will address
the long-term effectiveness of this technique.
