ABSTRACT 
Landsat - TM images have been used to monitor environmental impacts in Petrobrás operation areas, mainly 
in the more sensitive seashore and large rivers margin ecosystems. Natural changes and the evolution of bars, 
beach, marginal channels and lagoons, mangrove and other marshlands have been analysed on multitemporal 
images. The characteristics of the vaster bodies regarding the distribution of floating and suspension material 
and their relation with anthropic action were also observed. Selected examples from certain sites were chosen 
in order to illustrate and to discuss the more expressive observations.
