ABSTRACT
The present paper used Spot P images processed photographically and hybrid digital product derived from
Spot P and Spot Xs integration to discriminate and map urban sectors outskirts in the westhern area of Säo
Paulo city. The mapping of the urban sectors outskirts was made in the 1: 25.000 scale using the
photointerpretation methodology that consists of discriminating and separating homogeneous urban sectors.
The westhern area of Sáo Paulo City was chosen as test site due to the fact that different processes of
production and appropriation of the urban space have conditioned the formation of extremally heterogeneous
outskirts in its physical, social, economical and urban design aspects. The use of the products and techniques
selected emphasizes the superiority of the hybrid product caused by integration of the Spot XS spectral
resolution with Spot P spatial resolution, which improved the discrimination of the urban sectors outskirts in
the westhern area of Säo Paulo city.
