ABSTRACT 
This project concerns a National Remote Sensing Network involving a group of associates with view to 
interchanging spatial information. The network is a joint effort by Brazilian associates as follows: 
Environmental state and federal agencies and non-governmental ones interested in spatial information 
and remote sensing technologies. Twelve GIS were investigated analyzing functionalities and their 
possible adaptation for environmental studies. Hardware and operational systems tendencies were also 
studied for the purpose of supporting network instrumentation decision. The project was based on 
modem concepts, in an attempt to up-dating and mobilizing human resources as well as the 
aforementioned institution to share in the available means.
