APPLY INFRARED COLOR AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH TO INVESTIGATE LANDUSE 
AND ECOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT IN LULIANG PREFECTURE, CHINA

ABSTRACT 
Luliang Prefecture is located on the east part of the Loess Plateau in the west of Shanxi Province, China. 
As a major experimental area of applying remote sensing in Shanxi Province, the infrared color 
aerophotograph in Luliang Prefecture has been taken in six times in different scale and area since 1980. 
Among them the aerophotograph of the biggest area which is covered 21095 km? in 13 counties of whole 
prefecture in 1:50000 has been taken in September, 1991. The data of land use and ecological 
environment in the same time in the prefecture to be got by the remote sensing data was first time, and 
the data has been also applied to urban construction planning, land management, environment protection, 
forestry investigation, water conservancy, and soil and water conservation planning and management, and 
different level of governments such as counties and townships. The of proportion of performance and 
price of aerophotograph in 1:50000 is higher than aerophotograph in 1:1000, 1:20000 and 1:30000. It can 
be a basic information source of remote sensing in a region to resolve some practical problem on land 
cover, investigating ecological environment and so on. If the aerophotograph and TM data with multiple 
wavebands and different time can be used in the same time, the more effect can be got on remote sensing 
of environment and dynamic monitor for undeveloped area.
