Keynote Address 
Chairman Session 1|: 
Frederick J. Doyle is Research Cartographer 
for the National Mapping Division of the US 
Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia, USA. 
In recent years his activities have concen- 
trated on the development of image systems 
for Earth and planetary space vehicles. He 
is Past President and Honorary Member of the 
American Society of Photogrammetry, and is 
President (1980 - 1984) of the International 
Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. 
  
Chairman Session 2: 
Denis Fernando is presently Additional Secretary of the 
‘Ministry of Mahaweli Development in Sri Lanka. He had 
his training in the Survey and Irrigation Departments 
and was furthermore educated at the ITC, Netherlands. 
He did intensive field work in Sri Lanka. He is part 
time lecturer at the University of Colombo. He published 
Several books and many papers. He is Secretary of the 
Science and Technology Advisory Committee of his country. 
He has hold quite a few other positions as a volunteer 
both in the Government and also in non-governmental 
organisations.
