M.M. Datta is currently Senior Director of the Centre 
for Survey Training and Map Production within the 
Survey of India at Hyderabad, India. He graduated as 
civil engineer at Calcutta University in 1947 and 
joined the Survey of India in 1950. He specialised in 
photogrammetry and obtained a M.Sc. degree from the 
ITC, Netherlands, in 1961. Colonel Datta carried out 
research work and published some twenty papers on 
photogrammetry.
