PHOTOGRAMMETRIC EDUCATION
IN THE US S:R
Prof. Dr. Alexey N. Lobanov
Moscow Institute of Geodesy, Airsurveying and
Cartography, USSR
ABSTRACT
The basic tasks review of the Photogrammetry theoretical course, that is
studied by students in the USSR are presented in this paper. Some in-
formation on practice and in-laboratory lessons, field and of teaching
student training, post-graduate probation on the sample of Moscow Institut
of Geodesy, Airsurveying and Cartography is given. New efforts in the field
of text-book creation, bibliography and history of photogrammetry are
highlighted.

Science-technical revolution has a great impact on contemporary development
of photogrammetry. This feature increases intensification and speed of
science researches, sufficiently expands applications of photogrammetrical
methods and puts forward high demands on photogrammetry teaching.
In Moscow Geodesy, Airsurveying and Cartographic Institute (MIGAC) the
photogrammetry curriculum is given in compliance with learning plans and
programmes. The present time, when knowledges collection is parid, when
even their change exists and egineers to work successfully have to advance
their qualification steadily, has been taken into consideration working
on this paper.
Therefore basic educational and special subjects - mathematics, physics,
computing and programming, geodesy, mathematical theory of geodetic measure-
ments and others, on which photogrammetry is based - have sound place in
learning plans. Teaching of photogrammetry is started on the second year,
when the students got enough knowledges on these basic subjects.
Universality is a characteristic feature of contemporary photogrammetry
curriculum in MIAGAC. Before there were threee curricula of photogrammetry
in this Institute - close range photogrammetry, photogrammetric survey,
topographic survey using airial mosaic and stereocompilation. Now these
three curricula are joined into one, that includes advanced space survey
methods. Under the circumstances, in spite of reduction of total number
of lesson hours, contents of united curriculum became to be wider and
more perfect from methodical and scientific points of view.
The principal kind of theoretical pursuits are léctures. Lectures readings
are commissioned to well-known scientists and to the most experienced
scholars who secure high science methodical level, who can captivate listeners
attention and awake young people's interest to knowledges, to science and
