STANDARDS OF. COMPETENCE (SoC)
The following notes complement Outline 01.82 plus addendums,
In view of the multifarious commitments he obviously has, he meanwhile favoured
that another individual be appointed. Chairman, We are grateful to Professor
Fred Adamec of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology to be available on short
notice
President ISP Dr. Frederick Doyle had previously agreed to chair the sessions.

We received quite some response on Outline 01.82. It seems neither feasible nor
possible to read at the Symposium all papers, and statements, and answers to
the questionnaire, having been delivered. Yet, all material will be published
in our Proceedings to be available for future considerations.
It is requested that the task of the sessions at the Symposium be to resolve
policies and procedures for future treatment of the subject and, if applicable,
to appoint, or to name for being assigned, colleagues being willing and capable
to tackle the chore. Thereby, it is hoped that the ideas of some few indivi-
duals, or some few countries, be not the decisive element, but that a solution
be endorsed which backs the worldwide reputation of our field, and which
corresponds best to the needs of most our 66 Member Countries.
We received also opposing statements. That is good. They will obviously be
included in the Proceedings. Yet, we sincerely hope that, no matter how the
outcome will be, any individual will accept the resolution of the Symposium
and, all the more, any colleague will be prepared to cooperate and to carry a
share of the work load for implementing the endorsements to the benefit of ISP.
At the Hamburg Congress our General Assembly adopted renaming to " ISP and
Remote Sensing" . This decision implies the attitude that photogrammetrists
and remote sensing specialists (such as geographers, geologists, foresters,
environmental protectioners etc) form one family. Obviously, we have to feel
responsible for all family members. Thus, we have to include in our consider-
ations also Standards of Competence (the p photogrammetry and remote sensing
part) for geographers, geologists, environmental protectieners etc. However,
it may be repeated from Outline 01.82 as an peste Foresters should decide
themselves on whether Standards of Competence shall be accepted and imple-
mented.
Architects are forerunners of our subject. Their international organization
CIPA endorsed some time ago photogrammetric Standards of Competence for
architects.
