Houssam M. Karara is Professor of Civil Engineering 
at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois, USA. 
He holds a B.Sc. degree in civil engineering from 
Cairo University, Egypt, and a Dr.Sc.techn. degree 
in geodetic sciences from ETH Zürich, Switzerland. 
His professional experience includes engineering 
work in Egypt and Switzerland, and teaching, re- 
search and consulting in the US and abroad. He 
served as President, Commission V, International 
Society of Photogrammetry, for the term 1972 - 1976.
