ISP INFORMATION RETRIEVAL SYSTEM (ISP-IRS) 
  
: An appropriate literature retrieval system covering surveying and mapping and 
remote sensing does not exist in any country. Therefore, the scope of these 
sessions is to finalize the definition phase for ISP - IRS. To this end three 
sessions are scheduled. 
1 Session on "Experience of other professions with existing retrieval systems" 
1.1 ESA Information Retrieval Service (ESA-IRS), with online demonstration 
. to computer in Rome, Italy, via satellite communication. Most sophis- 
ticated data retrieval from a multitude of international data bases. 
Possibly a host for ISP-IRS. 
1.2 The Information System Division of United Nations, New York, offered to con- 
tribute a presentation. The Air Space Industry of Toulouse, France and the 
European Communities, Directorate-General Information Market and Innovation, 
Luxembourg, have been invited to report on their experience with 
storage and retrieval of bibliographic data and of miscellaneous indoor 
information. These reports could not be materialized. 
1.3 The term "indoor information", or factual information, comprises all data 
deemed necessary for successful research and professional operations, sup- 
plementing bibliographic information. 
  
1.4 We are grateful to the speakers of chemical industry and of steel industry 
for demonstrating online their experience with indoor information. It will 
also be shown that stored digital data can be retrieved with graphical output. 
1.5 The report on GEOFIZ (GEO - Fachinformationszentrum) is added by an online 
demonstration to INKA in Karlsruhe, FR Germany. Possibly a host for ISP-IRS. 
1.6 Literature retrieval reveals an output of an abstract. The next step will be 
to acquire or loan the referenced publication. This problem will be tackled withir 
the contribution of the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB).Hannover. 
1.7 We owe gratitude to Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF) for having agreed to 
use their sophisticated and most modern technical facilities for performing 
the online demonstrations. 
2 Session on "Hardware and Software" 
  
2.1 Scope of this session is to provide a rough idea on the technical facilities 
required for online retrieval at both ends, at the host computer and at the 
user.
