ABSTRACT 
'GEOLINE, the main German language bibliographic data base on geosciences, will 
be introduced. It contains 350,000 citations of the worldwide published literature 
1970 to date. Overview of subject coverage and production aspects in interna- 
tional cooperation will be given. Various information services based on GEOLINE 
offered by the national "Information Center for Geoscience, Mining and Water 
Management" will be discussed. 
  
The Information Center for Geosciences, Mining, and Water Management (GEOFIZ) 
is one of twenty information centers planned to be set up in the Federal Re- 
public of Germany. Some of these are already in operation. GEOFIZ functions as 
a part of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) . 
These information centers have been started as part of the information and do- 
cumentation program of the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim of this program 
is to group the existing scientific and technical documentation centers into 
twenty information systems. Each information system is coordinated by an in- 
formation center 
The objective is 
+ to provide complete documentation in all areas of science and technology, and 
+ to make this documentation of the literature and numeric data collections 
from the various scientific and technological fields available to a wide 
public through the information centers. The 20 information centers in the 
Federal Republic of Germany for the various fields of science and technology 
are: 
1 - PUBLIC HEALTH, MEDICINE, BIOLOGY 2 - NUTRITION, AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY 
AND SPORT 
3 - CHEMISTRY 4 - ENERGY, PHYSICS, MATHEMATICS 
(INCLUDING AERO- AND ASTRONAUTICS) 
5 - METALLURGY, MATERIALS, METAL 6 - MINING AND GEOSCIENCES (INCLUDING 
WORKING MARINE RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY) 
7 - TRANSPORTATION 8 - LAND USE, ENGINEERING, CITY PLANNING . 
9 - CONSUMER PRODUCTS 10 - ECONOMICS 
11 - LAW 12 - EDUCATION 
13 - SOCIAL SCIENCES 14 - HUMANITIES
