EDITORIAL
Commission VI has the assignment for several topics. The proceedings have
been grouped in different parts so that each section can be used inde-
pendently.
An editor must practise great patience if he wants to include all contri-
butions. This was deemed unavoidable here as we tackled at our Symposium
some new items yielding the feasibility to assemble all papers and minutes
of the discussions as a basic reference material for future considerations.
It is both a duty and a pleasure to extend gratitude to all authors, and
specifically to specialists outside our field, as well as to chairmen and
rapporteurs of sessions, and to colleagues having participated in the dis-
cussions. I sincerely hope these proceedings will contribute somewhat to the
advancement of our profession, and to the benefit of many countries.
The ultimate objective of publishing is to enable communication, thus to
allow a reader to participate in the thoughts of someone else. I believe
communication can be promoted by some knowledge of the personality of the
author. Therefore, a photo and biographic data are added. This has been done
as well for the chairmen and rapporteurs of sessions as their personality
affected to quite some extend the success of our Symposium.
Commission VI is within ISPRS responsible for bibliography. Accordingly, a
proposal for bibliographic quotation is added to any paper.
Envisaging that publications are studied by a limited number of readers
(see page 126), we avoided spending too much money on appearance. However,
any effort was performed for substantive contents.
