new systems such as SPOT, or a specific subject area such as space oceanography or regional
development & urban management.
Special ‘’country-specific’’ courses: The GDTA organizes specialist training courses on a regu-
lar basis (see curricula in GDTA Training brochure), but also on request, for a minimum of 10
trainees, in either French or English. Countries can request a course just for their nationals, as
did Iraq in 1982, Libya in 1983, and Saudi Arabia in 1985. Alternatively, the request can come
from national and international organizations,
4 — COURSES IN THE COUNTRY CONCERNED
The GDTA organizes courses abroad, both at the permanent premises of the centers that it
assists, such as the CRTO in Ouagadougou or the AIT in Bangkok, and for other organizations
(such as government administrations and universities) that make a request. These are short (or a
la carte) courses in specific subject areas, similar to those defined in 8 3; and lasting from one to
three weeks maximum. They may be of an introductory nature, or cover an earth observation
satellite system, or can be designed around a given theme such as agricultural statistics, hydrolo-
gy, soil conservation, etc. Requests for such courses should be sent direct to the GDTA.
