e At the territory of Eastern Croatia the map contents
correspond to the situation in 1982-1984.
The topographic map at the scale of 1:200 000 (TK 200) was
made during the period 1972-1975 (the first edition) on the
basis of the map TK 100. In 1985 the second edition was
published, supplemented on the basis of the new edition of
TK 100. For the area of Croatia this edition has the following
characteristics:
e At the territory of Eastern Croatia the map contents
correspond to the landscape situation in 1984.
e At the territory of Western Croatia the map contents
correspond to the situation in 1985.
The general topographic map at the scale 1:300 000 was made
during the period 1984-1985 on the basis of the second edition
of TK 200. The general topographic map at the scale of
1:500 000 in Lambert conformal conical projection (PTK 500)
was made during the period 1979-1983. On the basis of the new
edition of TK 200 the amendment was published in 1989 and
the second edition printed.
More information about geodetic works, land surveying,
production and maintenance of maps under the supervision of
former Yugoslav Army can be found in the overview Geodet-
ska sluzba JNA (Peterca, Colovié 1987).
2.4 Topographic map of Croatia in digital form — the first
temporary edition
The Republic of Croatia was left without the reproduction
originals of topographic maps after becoming independent. It
was decided that the reproduction original copies would be
generated from the existing topographic maps 1:25 000.
Although the contents of the existing topographic maps were
old, the print of the reconstructed sheets with new external
description without the revision of the contents was a necessary
and temporary solution. The production of the reproduction
originals was done by means of digital procedures of scanning
the multi-colour print, separating it into layers according to the
colours used in printing. Digital records were first in the PDF
format, and later they were transformed into TIF. The new
coordinate grid was based on WGS 84 system and available in
DXF or DWG formats (Landek, 2001, 2003).
The same procedure was also applied on topographic maps at
the scales 1:100 000 and 1:200 000.
2.5 Production of the new Croatian topographic map TK 25
SGA systematically performs the cyclical aerial survey of
Croatia since 1996. The scale of the survey is 1:20 000, the
images are black and white or coloured, and the size of 23x23
cm. SGA sells copies and contact copies, as well as scanned
aerial photographs in various resolutions (Landek, 2001, 2003).
The data processing is performed by digital methods in order to
create a high quality base of topographic data for the
establishment of information system and digital relief model.
The block adjustment is performed by the bundle of rays. The
photogrammetric plotting is on analogous stereo instruments,
and mapping with Bentley's MicroStation. Mapping is in two
separate files (the situation is separately mapped, and then
separately the elements for the production of digital relief
model). The computation of digital relief model (DMR) in the
166
production of TK 25 is made using the program SCOP. The
topographic contents are available in the formats DGN/DXF,
EXPRESS, and the presentation of heights in the formats
SCOP-DTM DXF, WINPUT, ASCII, DGN.

Figure 3. Part of the new Croatian topographic map at the scale
of 1:25 000
More details about the production of new Croatian topographic
map at the scale of 1:25 000 can be found in the report by S.
Lemajic (1998).
According to the Program of State Survey and Real Estate
Cadastre for the Period of 2001-2005 (Hrvatski drZavni sabor,
2001), the production of all 594 sheets of TK 25 will be
completed during that period. 62 sheets have been completed
until July 2003 (Fig. 3).
2.6 General topographic map of Croatia at the scale
1:500 000
In 1993 the map of the Republic of Croatia was made at the
Institute for Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb
presenting the county areas at the scale of 1:500 000. The map
was made for the Ministry of Defence. In 1995 the air
navigation map was made at the Institute for Cartography at the
Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb, published by the
Ministry of Defence on two sheets (Zagreb-Zadar and Osijek-
Split) at the scale of 1:500 000, and in the same projection and
with the same parameters as the earlier mentioned map of
county areas.
