ABSTRACT:
The ISPRS Educational Directory was a task developed by the ISPRS Commission 6, Working Group 1 on Education and as part of
the ISPRS Educational Opportunities Program initiated in 1996. It was a first attempt to provide a comprehensive directory of
education and training services in the remote sensing and spatial information sciences. In the UN Directory it is possible to get
information from all UN members states that are involved in Space Science. To generate the ISPRS Educational Directory, it was
necessary to contact several Remote Sensing and GIS Institutions around the world by fax, mail and email in order to update the UN
Directory and get information from institutions that were not in it. Currently there are 117 institutions of 55 countries registered in
this directory. Despite the availability of this information in the internet, it is necessary to keep a regular updating in order to make its
data reliable. The objective of this paper is to present the updating of the ISPRS Directory “Education, Training, Research and
Fellowship Opportunities in the Remote Sensing, GIS and its Applications" as well as include new institutions involved in education
in Remote Sensing and GIS Applications. As a consequence of this, the main goal is that the next ISPRS Commission 6 leaders in
education and communication can assume the commitment for the maintenance and updating of this directory as a permanent task.
To access the ISPRS Educational Directory click on the scroll text at the homepage: http://www.commission6.isprs.org.
Besides, additional faxes and emails were sent to Institutions
whose addresses were in the INPE and SELPER mailing list
and the ISPRS Silver Book.
1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Development of the ISPRS Educational Directory
The first step of this task was to create an application form in
order to get homogeneous information from the international
institutions.
The ISPRS Educational Directory was a task developed by the
ISPRS Commission 6, Working Group 1 on Education and as
part of the ISPRS Educational Opportunities Program initiated
in 1996.
The information requested in this form include 4 main topics
besides the institution data as name, full address, telephone, fax
and email numbers, homepage address, contact person and its

information sciences.
The Directory was developed from an original document
prepared some years ago by the Office for Outer Space Affairs
under the United Nations Program on Space Applications in
Vienna.
In the UN Directory it is possible to get information from all
UN members states that are involved in Space Science.
