During the W.G. VII-6 Committee meeting held on Thursday, 16 september,
attention was drawn to the priority which needs to be accorded to :
(ij SPOT:
(ii) SIMULATION MODELS
(iii) ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS
the technique of monitoring urban environmental structure ;
the application of, and the tráining of manpower for, these tech-
niques for urban settlement analysis, and further urban planning
requirements ; i
the further development of the application of SPOT imagery to
Regional Ecological Analysis, including regional, environmental
mapping ;
the analysis of the 'dynamics of ecological changes'
with a quanti-
fication and economic values attached.
: with the scale and complexity of environmental degrada- ——
tion and the erosion of natural resources, and the
continually increasing demands from an increasing
number of human beings, more attention should be
given by W.G. VII-6 to the application of systems
engineering to environmental monitoring, and modelling
of the quantitative interaction of ecological environ-
mental components with the needs of human settlements.
