BARNS:
I would like to make some comments on the discussion aDout
6IS-L1S systems. There is a shortage of low cost GIS-LIS systems.
There is a system which costs $85, called OSU-map for the PC
educational CIS within everyones reach, in the US any software which
is developed in a public domain is often free, one pays only the cost or
the disk to aquire it and there are a few GIS systems not the best but
good for education.
I would like to say something else too which comes out
through my experience from a land information management
programme in Ohio State. It's that we have to come back to the
teaching of fundamentals. It dosn't matter what facts we are teaching,
we have to teach the students to think critically.
BADEKAS
Mr. President,
Mr Secretery General of Research and Technology,
Mr President of the Hellenic Organization for Cadastral and
Mapping,
Mr President of the International Society for
Photogrammetry,
panel members, distinguished collegues,
it was really a privilege and a great pleasure for me, for the
Greek Society of Photogrammetry and for the Organising Committee to
have you here and to share with you the work of this Symposium. Your
presence ano participation has considerably strengthend the
performance of this Symposium and of our Commission. I am sure that
most of the participants have noticed the improvement of the
activities of Com. V|_ which was nicely pointed out by prf. Konecny, but
also the structural problem of the Commission that still persist. I can
assure you that myself, the Commission Secretary Dr. Georgopoulos and
the members of the Com board have tried as hard as possible to
promote the activities of our Commission. It will require however
much more time and considerable additional efforts until the
performance and the importance of Com. VI will reach a level
comparable with the levels of the other technical commissions of
ISPRS. We hope that at the 1992 Congress in Washington the
improvements will become much more obvious ana the structural
problems will further diminish. As i have said in my welcoming speech
we have tried to make the Symposium important, fruitful and pleasant.
