'The rich experience obtained by the VNIIKAM in geo
logical explorations of sea bottom based on aerial photo
graphy of areas in the Black, Caspian, Azov, Baltic, Whi
te, Barents seas, seas of Okhotsk and Japan shows that
aerial photography of sea bottom provides hie most modern,
economical, reliable and accurate basis for mapping of
subsea regions in the interests of various industries.
The integrated technology
of geological mapping using
a e r o/s pace photography is intended for
deep cosmoaerogeological mapping of closed areas at man
tle thickness up to several kilometers, location of oil/
gas-bearing and ore-bearing structures, selection of are
as for more detailed reconnaissance operations.
A particular feature of this technology is a special
selection of aerial mapping parameters and conditions of
photography, original means of photorectification for
aero/space pictures, a specific qualitative and quanti
tative analysis which does not require the use of com
puters and excludes differences in data interpretation.
An important advantage of the technology is the li
mited amount of hardware employed (hence the low cost)
and high quality of final results in the form of struc
tural-tectonic charts and maps usable in industrial or
ganizations of any technical equipment level.
The technology of geological/
geographical and ecological
investigations on the basis of
airborne radar mapping data
allows to study tectonics and morphology, especially in
closed areas; to solve hydrological problems; to detect
and delineate oil spill water areas.
An important feature of this technology is timely
and independent of season, weather, hour of day or night
reception of specific images of land or water areas ta
ken in radio frequency range in scales of 1:100 000,
1:200 000, 1:500 000. The radar mapping is carried out
by airborne side-scanning units.
