-A3 dimensional hydro dynamic model with passive
constituents (decay, sedimentation),
- A model describing active constituents (plankton/
algae growth and decay, resuspension of sedimented
matter, etc),
- A residual current model,
- The creation of a library of model-reconstructed
cases, defined by their RS signature.
Actually we are around half way the final goal.
The hydrodynamic model is a 3D model, actually
consisting of a coarse grid (11.445 x 5.723 km) model
covering the entire Adriatic down to the strait of
Otranto, and a fine grid (2.861 x 2.861 km) model
covering solely the Northern Adriatic Sea , north of
the line Pula-Rimini. The depth is divided in 25
steps. The fine model derives its sea-boundery
conditions from the coarse model.
The initial conditions and the boundary conditions
of the model runs will be based as far as possible on
RS data from space, integrated with meteorological
data and in-situ data. The model is presently
implemented on the Amdahl mainframe.
THE ADRIATIC MODEL CALIBRATION CAMPAIGN
Up to now the JRC modeling effort was essentially by
contract and and we would be glad to enlarge its
basis to a concerted action together with several
institutions or a shared cost action. Furthur on the
calibration of the actual JRC model is hardly
possible with RS data and requires extensive in-situ
measurements, essentially of a type hardly acquired
up to now (current).
It is in this context that the JRC tries to organize
a collaboration to arrive at:
- a redifinition of the model to make it a common
objective of more collaborating institutions
- the organisation of a (or more) massive campaign in
the Adriatic basin to collect all data needed for
the calibration of the model and for a better
understanding of the marine ambience
The first phase is envisaged to start this fall.
Workshops are envisaged to investigate the merits
and drawbacks of the various modeling approaches and
to arrive at a common modeling concept for the
Adriatic Sea, supported by several institutions, who
will engage in further development and
implementation.
