expert. This is pure photo-interpretation. In view of the great variety in factors influencing
the processes of soil formation, for instance the climate, the drawing of conclusions from
the photo-image with regard to soil conditions is hardly justified. The maps produced are
neither complete nor very precise, though many boundaries of mapping units may be
indicated very accurately. Often only broad land groups can be distinguished. Still for
a preliminary and general information in agricultural development schemes and in land
use planning these kinds of small-scale maps can be of great value.
