CHAPTER VI.
Regarding Comm. VI dealing with education, terminology, bibliography,
history and polyglot dictionary, we must admit that the problem of bibliography oí
photogrammetry has still not found its international solution. The author took the
initiative to start a bibliography in the Delft I.T.C. for its own use. Experience,
however, showed that without some international cooperation, it will be impossible
to publish a bibliography which can be used all over the world. Recently we
learned that in various institutes parts of such a bibliography were being made and
we hope that the Stockholm Congress will provide a possibility to reach a solution
for this problem of international cooperation. The Delft ITC is willing to undertake
the publication and distribution of such a bibliography if such cooperation can be
organized with some national societies of photogrammetry or scientific institutes.
We feel it to be unsatisfactory if a bibliography appears only at each congress,
that means with an interval of four years, as in the past.
Regarding terminology | draw attention to the effort made by the author
to propose a certain standardisation of signs in the general formulae used in photo-
grammetry (12). The publication by Dr. Jerie (14) in the same issue of Photo-
grammetria shows the chaos in this respect, which makes the understanding of
formulas in publications in different photogrammetric reviews very difficult. We will
therefore, at the International Congress in Stockholm, come with a new proposal
based on suggestions which I received after the article of 1955. We hope that in
particular also the industry will take into account the decisions — if any — accepted
by the Congress.
As regards education no important changes as compared with the 1952 Report
can be mentioned. Education at the universities for Technology (Delft) and Agri-
culture (Wageningen) continues in the same way. Important, however, is the
establishment of a new large building for the Delft I.T.C. in close connection with
the old Geodetic Institute of the Delft University of Technology. In this new building
are also housed the photogrammetric section of the Geodetic Institute and the
collection of photogrammetric instruments of both the Geodetic Institute and the
Delft I.T.C.; they are treated as one unit for common use. When designing this
building all kinds of provisions were made, in particular in the rooms for first-order
instruments, in order to avoid known and unknown sources of errors. Therefore
the floor of this room is a big concrete sheet of 35 cm on 40 rubber cushions of
30 cm diameter and 30 cm hight and naturally the whole room is airconditioned
with tolerances of 2 degrees for temperature and 5 % for humidity. Four floors
of this building of 8 stories, excluding a basement for laboratories, are occupied
by the 50 rooms for foreign students of the I.T.C.
