agricultural area, industrial area, gaining or losing population, and
(7) the general climate of the area. Last, all these factors should be
examined with regard to how they will be manifest on radar imagery as a
function of such system parameters as shadow, resolution, incidence angle,
fore and back slope variation, and tone and texture. The environmental
modulation transfer function will affect any and every land use inventory
effort in some way. The critical factor to consider in employing radar
imagery is the relationship between the area to be examined and the
system's unique imaging characteristics. This study has provided empirical
evidence and a discussion of this relationship for two environments.
