Abstract 
This paper is a survey of several areas in Northen Italy 
taken as samples for a ground classification of the species 
being cultivated in agriculture. The classification and subsequent 
inventory were obtained through an analogical interpretation 
of scenes from Landsat MSS data selected and processed ad hoc 
so as to respond to the phenological characteristics of the 
crops under examination. 
The Landsat data were integrated through an examination 
of aerial photographs from previous periods, of great use in 
determining certain groups difficult to monitor through Landsat. 
All the sample areas under survey have been classified in 
eight groups; a quantitative inventory of the crops was then 
drawn up and a check of the estimates reached using the convention 
al methods employed by the "Ispettorato dell'Agricoltura" (The 
Agriculture Inspectorate).
