In Survey Training Institute» Hyderabad we conduct
three basic courses in surveying and mapping at three levels
for new entrants to the Survey of India* The following
theortical and practical instructions in the simpler methods
of photogrammetry using radial line principles are imparted
to the various courses:

A large proportion of surveys in comparatively flat
terrain in India is still carried out by simpler methods of
photogrammetry*
HOW TO GET TEACHERS
In India over the last twenty four years we have
built up adequate number of photogrammetric teachers partly
through the visit of international experts upto 1972 and
partly through sending officers abroad for completing
Advanced P-2 level course of the ITC.
i
An interesting question which was discussed in the
ITC International Symposium 1976: Surveys for Development
and the general consensus is reproduced below*
Question
Should training be given in the developing countries
themselves and does this apply to all levels of training?
Answer
The general consensus of opinion was that the basic
training of operators should be given in the country itself
and preferably within the mapping organisation* Opinions
differed, however, as to whether this training should be
combined with actual production or not* As far as special
ised training is concerned, it was agreed that this could be
given abroad, but then short courses were preferred*
