efforts that have been focussed on two directions. Firstly we have
reformed the structure of the working groups of the Commission in .
order to cover the most up to date and atractive fields of our
science .
Secondly we have tried to activate as many as possible young,
enthusiastic and well known collègues evenly distributed from all
over the world.
These changes have created important papers which will
produce interesting discussions in our symposium and I hope this will
have a great impact on our scientific field.

involvement of computers will be dominating. Actually we are in
front of a mapping revolution. For "the brave new world" the work of
Commission VI as it has been imaged by its working groups can be
very constructive.
By studying and publishing the history of photogrammetry and
remote sensing , we understand better our present and wè can have a
better visions for the future.
