ABSTRACT
The economic development of a nation depends on the
planned and proper utilization of its renewable and non«
renewable natural sources. Planning is a continuous
process for decision making, whether it is long term
or short term. Lack of relevant data in time often
forces planning decisions based on inadequate and super
ficial information. As such, a good data base is essen
tial for planning activities to lead to more reliable
decisions. The major natural resources of the country
viz., the land resources, the mineral resources, the
forest resources and the water resources, if surveyed
and developed properly will assist in a region's rapid
economic development. With the recent development in
remote-sensing techniques, it has become possible to
carry out such surveys much more rapidly than what was
possible in the past. With this in view, an attempt is
being made in this work, to illustrate the application
of remotely sensed data of Landsat-2 in preparing re
sources inventory of Indore District of State of Madhya
Pradesh, India. The test area has co-ordinatest
75° 25* N
22° 20' E
76° 15' N
23° 05' E
The general topography of this terrain varies from 500
to 560met• above MSL. Once the concept of an integrated
investigation for resources survey is known, it is
possible to visualize the diffrence in terms of results
that will pave way for more effective, speedier and
optimum project possibilities.
INTRODUCTION
The natural resources of any Country Constitute one of
its most valuable assets that can be utilized as a basis
for economic development. The agriculture land, forests,
water and mineral resources, if inventoried speedily,
developed and managed economically can stimulate regional
development, improve agriculture production, develop
rural areas. Man's need for such resources data is out
pacing the capabilities of conventional methods and
