method of the least squares,
2,2 The projectors of the plotting instrument
The main task of the projectors is to reconstruct
the mathematical pencils of rays from the photography as
accurately as possible, Therefore the projectors have to
be carefully investigated concerning the quality of the
pencils of rays. In many instruments there are devices for
the correction of the radial distortion. The projectors
should be tested exclusive and inclusive of such correc-
tion devices. Further, in instruments where the Zeiss’
paralellogram, or similar devices, are present, the qua-
lity of the pencils of rays from the projectors should be
tested for at least 5 different base settings (base = 0,
base-in and base-out in maximum and average settings res-
pectively).
The presentation of the results should be made in
accordance with the points a) - c) above for each projector
and base setting.
The adjustment of the images in the individual projec-
tors can also be of importance. This operation means adjust-
ment of discrepancies in a condition which is establishe
by the fiducial marks of the projector and of the image
(camera). The discrepancies between the two sets of fiducial
marks should therefore be measured and recorded, especially
in aerial triangulation procedures.
2.5 The relative orientation
The relative orientation means an operation where the
condition of the intersections of rays is of fundamental
importance. Consequently the reliability of the relative
orientation can be tested from measurements of the dis-
crepancies in the intersection of rays. In other words,
the relative orientation can be tested most conveniently
by measurements of y-parallaxes.
From such measurements the camera and projector tests
