There is the urgent need to set up: 
— a National Research Centre for Surveying and Mapping 
— a National Centre for Remote Sensing. 
Mushrooming of mapping companies should be discouraged and a few viable and self- 
reliant indigenous companies should be formed by pulling together the scarce manpower 
and technical resources. 
Formation of partnership between Nigerian and foreign companies as a pre-condition for 
award of Federal Mapping contracts should be discouraged if we are to acquire the nece- 
ssary technology in the mapping industry.
