pletely without a comprehensive aerial view. It makes no difference whether 
these photographs are used for studying changes in a longstanding cultural 
landscape or whether they are used to document a developing region. The 
further research necessary for the opening up of the country can be based on the 
indications obtained in the natural resources inventory survey, which enables 
the investigators to concentrate their efforts on the most promising parts. It is 
only in this way that the billions of tomorrow can be fed adequately and attain 
a better standard of living. May I express the wish that this Symposium, at 
which so many experts in the various fields of aerial photo interpretation are 
present, will contribute to the furthering of principles and methods of natural 
resources inventory for the benefit of mankind.
