The above mentioned data are taken from the experience of several 
years map production at 1i5000 scale in North Rhine-Westphalia. 
Photomaps compiled by the conventional rectification and by 
the orthoprojection are in this region a part of the base map 
series* It is not intended there to replace the line map with 
th^ photomap, particularly in- the densely built up areas. 
The results shown in Table 2 are also confirmed by Voss [5J • 
At the University of Mining and Metallurgy In Cracow similar 
comparison took place, when the Polish Base Map at 1:2000 scale 
was analysed /without contour lines/* For one map sheet /1,6 
square kilometer/ of the region near Cracow the production time 
using Zeiss -Jena Topocart and Orthophot was 24 hours and with 
the stereoplotting technique 130 hours* The time - consuming 
ratio in this case Is 1:6,2* The cost ratio is similar.
